Afforestation, Reforestation and REDD+
Reforestation is the direct human-induced conversion of non-forested land to forested land through planting, seeding or human-induced promotion of natural seed sources, on land that was forested but that has been converted to non-forested land. Afforestation is the direct human-induced conversion of land that has not been forested for a period of at least 50 years to forested land through planting, seeding and/or the human-induced promotion of natural seed sources.
Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) is primarily about emissions reductions. Early versions of REDD design did not focus on conservation, but more on sustainable Forest Management Plans (sometimes too close to “sustainable logging”). REDD+ could simultaneously address climate change and rural poverty, while conserving biodiversity and sustaining vital ecosystem services. REDD+ initiatives can be developed either at a local or national level.
Green Eco-Land has extensive experience in assessing REDD+ projects proposals and can assist project proponents put together all the documents required to obtain the validation and registration of the project.
